John focuses his practice on improvements in the fields of computer science, electrical engineering, imaging, and business methods. Technologies for which John has successfully built patent portfolios include, for example, advancements in artificial intelligence (including generative artificial intelligence), computer vision and other image processing, voice user interfaces, financial technologies, complex data analytics, scaled device control, and the intersection of computer science and mechanical devices.  He also advises clients with inventions in the mechanical, chemical, and plant-based fields.  

With over a decade of experience prosecuting patent applications in art groups known for patent-eligibility challenges, John specializes in crafting patent applications designed to overcome Alice-based rejections.

As a patent group lead at Lee & Hayes, John focuses on asset quality and work product timeliness. John’s emphasis for his team is to strive for ever-increasing quality by utilizing dynamic marketplace data, drafting tools, data modeling, and honed best practices.  By so doing, John and his team are called upon to partner with and manage patent portfolios for many of our clients, including several Fortune 500 companies.

John is a top-rated attorney and has been selected to the Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers since 2016 for his work in intellectual property.
